5 Steps to take if your Dell Speakers don’t Work

If your Dell speakers give you hard time when an audio is played, you must immediately look in to the problem before it graves. Here are 5 important steps that you can take to fix the speaker problems in your Dell laptop: You can also find here Dell PC support.
Step 1: Determine whether the Dell speakers were working previously or not. If they were, check that they are not on the mute mode. Yes, there are chances that you might have put speakers on mute by mistake. Check that the volume has not been pointed to the minimum level while playing around with other things on your laptop. Recheck the physical connection of the cable if it is a headset/headphone or are external speakers that are connected to your Dell computer.
Step 2: If everything looks fine, open Device Manager. Click the Start menu> Control Panel> System and Security. Expand Device Manager> Sound, video, and game controllers. Look for the sound card under there. It must be something similar to audio drivers or Realtek audio etc. If the sound card has a yellow exclamation mark beside it, right click on it> select Update driver. If you don’t see the Update driver option, choose Properties. When in the Properties window, highlight the Driver tab and update drivers of the sound card.
Step 3: You can either download the latest drivers directly from the Dell website or update them from an already existing driver file in your PC. If you are updating drivers from an existing file, it must have been downloaded in advanced to your PC. Often, driver files are zipped files, thus you may need to extract their contents before doing the update task. When drivers have been updated, close all the windows and reboot your Dell computer.
Step 4: Check if you can listen to the sound or not. If sound plays fine, it means speakers have started working. Besides, you must download and install Windows updates to make sure that sound card works properly next time and always in future. Windows updates and driver updates should be done regularly to make sure that the sound card and other speaker problems remain at bay and do not strike your laptop again.

Step 5: If the above mentioned steps do not fix Dell speaker problems, open your web browser and visit the Microsoft website. Download Sound Troubleshooter, an automated tool, and install it on your PC. Make sure that you are logged in with admin rights to run this tool. When done installing the tool, open it and start the troubleshooting. The troubleshooter will diagnose and automatically fix the common Dell sound and speaker problems. If there is a hardware problem, it will not fix it. You will have to replace either the speakers or sound card whichever proves faulty.

How to Fix Windows 7 Upgrade Problems

Windows 7 is undoubtedly a faster and better operating system than the previous versions. Upgrading is of course the easiest way to get Windows 7 on your PC. However, OS upgrade is not always a pleasant task to perform due to the complexities and risks involved, especially, when you have to upgrade from older version to Windows 7. Windows Vista still can spare some relaxation for you as it already meets the system requirements for Windows 7.
You may experience below mentioned issues during Windows 7 upgrade:
§  Upgrade/installation hangs at 62%
§  PC starts rebooting or shutting down in a continuous loop
§  Product key doesn’t work
§  Installation fails and restores the previous OS version
§  Missing Windows mail and parental controls (web filtering) after installation
§  Missing driver, card reader issues

How to Fix Microsoft Security Essentials Error Codes

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is the free antivirus offering from Microsoft. The program has been designed to help protect Windows users from virus, spyware, malware, and Trojan among other malicious infections that can ruin their online and offline life completely. Though it is easy to install and use MSE, you may still face errors while or after installing it. Don’t worry! I am discussing some of the common MSE installation errors here.
·         Can't complete the MSE Installation Wizard - Error code 0x80070643 or 0×80070002
·         PC stops responding during MSE installation
·         PC shows BSOD error after installation
·         Updates fail or can’t be checked, downloaded, or installed
·         Updates aren’t installing automatically as scheduled
·         Slow scan performance or overall PC performance
Check the steps given below and fix them:
1. The error code 0x80070643 occurs when your Windows hasn’t passed the genuine Windows validation test. Ensure that you have a genuine copy of Windows and not a duplicate one. If you don’t have a genuine copy, then procure one from your system vendor or the Microsoft website.
2. If the error occurs despite having a genuine Windows copy, remove the WGA notification. You can also find here how to disable Windows not genuine error in Windows 7.
3. If you still get the same or different error code, you might have another antivirus, anti-spyware, or firewall program installed on your PC. Check your PC for the same. If there is one, uninstall it completely from your PC and then continue with the installation. Find here how to remove a program completely from your PC.
4. Also delete the registry entries of the particular program to fully uninstall it from your computer. If you don’t do so, the empty registry keys of the uninstalled program will not let MSE install on your computer. Since manual registry deletion is not recommended, run a registry cleaner tool to remove the unused or corrupt registry entries. Now that the particular program is fully removed, install MSE program step by step. you can also find here how to back up Windows registry.

 5. If you are unable to update MSE, restart the Microsoft Update service. MSE uses the Microsoft Update service to update itself. Click Start> type ‘services.msc’ in the Start Search bar and hit Enter. If prompted, enter you admin password and continue. Right-click Windows Update> click Start (or Restart whatever you see there). When done, exit the Services window and restart your PC. Find here how to fix MSE update errors.

What is Ransomware and How to protect your PC from it?

Ransomware is a type of dangerous malware intended to kidnap a customer’s PC containing personal, social, and banking details etc. Also known as cryptotrojan or cryptovirus, Ransomware encrypts a customer’s critical data files without his intention and knowledge and demands ransom in lieu of decrypting them.
Ransomware is not a new malware program. In fact, the beast has been around from a long time and has been the hackers' choice for spreading dreadfulness since its emergence. According to Symantec (a security software vendor), three new ransomware variants have appeared so far. This is quite obvious that such cases have progressed in numbers so far. Previously, attackers only targeted businesses but later on included individuals also in their target list.
A new type of ransomware also came in vogue lately to seize a user’s PC and encode all the files without sending a ransom/payment note. The data kidnappers target the user while he is surfing the Internet to obtain information about malware programs that encode files. They earn money by selling file-decrypting software on the authentic websites.
Modus Operandi – The user suddenly finds its system locked or inaccessible with a pop-up window flashing on the screen, asking him/her to key in a secret code receivable only after making payment to the attacker. The user may also be asked to send a text message (SMS) for making payment and obtaining the code.
Incoming Source – A computer could come in contact with a Ransomware program from an already-infected program, email attachment, or a malicious/compromised website. So, you need to be careful while surfing the Internet or downloading any email attachment. If the website is not a trusted one or email attachment is not from a trusted sender, than it's better not to open it. Similar to other malware programs, ransomware installs itself on the PC and seizes it completely.
How to protect your PC from Ransomware?

Well, most of the antivirus programs have security definitions that are capable of blocking common ransomware programs. However, users are strongly recommended to keep a good data backup plan, which stores all their files on an online data backup & storage service or a freestanding drive. Moreover, they are required to install stronger antivirus software that updates itself regularly with the latest security definitions. This will help keep such malicious programs at bay in the first place.
***You can also buy McAfee SaaS Endpoint Protection suite, a stronger antivirus protection for your PC.
For businesses, it is recommended that they invest in putting a Linux-based server to use because most of the GPcode programs attack the Windows OSs. Small-sized businesses, which cannot afford to run Linux-based server, are advised to impart proper training to their employees and users on employing secured computing practices. The more familiar they become with such practices, the lesser will be the chances of getting infected with ransomware. These businesses can also opt to use OpenDNS or other similar online services for blocking the access to compromised websites.

How to Safeguard your External Hard Drive

Your hard drive is your store to innumerable digital documents, programs, settings, favorites, games, emails, photos, and videos/audios etc. You can carry your store along while you are mobile or keep it at home or office for reuse. The question that arises now is how safe your digital world (data) is from catastrophic, digital or accidental disasters whether you are mobile or immobile? It's not even 0.001% safe from such disasters.Get here how to backup your entire digital data online.
How to Safeguard your External Hard Drive
All of your data can be lost in an eye’s blink when such disasters occur. Thefts, floods, electricity outages, hard drive failures, computer viruses and malware can destroy your digital life in seconds without giving you a chance to save your important documents or memories captured through camera, phone, browser etc. Thus it’s really important to safeguard your hard drive (whether external or internal) to keep your digital and personal life safe and secure. Check the instructions below and protect your data:
Cloud storage – This is the best way of backing up and restoring data of your external and internal hard drives, USB drives etc. Cloud storage or online data backup and storage is an easy and comfortable method to back up, restore, and sync all that you can on your PC or laptop, Smartphone, tablet etc.
It is the simplest backup and restore method that can be installed and used easily. You can back up and restore your data as many times as you want to. Moreover, whatever change you make to your data will be updated in real-time in your data on cloud storage.
Third-party software – Various third-party software are available online to let you encrypt your hard drive data using advanced engines and technologies. TrueCrypt is one of such software applications that allow you to set encryption for your entire hard drive or a part of it as desired. I will not recommend these tools as they can compromise your data and security.
Password protection – You can password protect your hard drive in some simple steps given here. Click the Start button> Computer (Win7). You will see your hard drive listed here (if it’s connected to your PC currently). Right-click the hard drive> select Properties. Click Security (the tab)> click Edit (the button). On the next screen, type the names of users whom you want to allow access to your hard drive. You can click the Add button to start adding the names.

Locate the desired devices and make their icons display on the Desktop. Thereafter, customize your desktop settings to arrange or display the icons as desired. Once the icons are displayed in the Network Manager, you can connect, share, manage, or track the devices instantly on your wireless network.

You can even view all the information related to a wireless device in the Network Manager. Open Network Manager, right-click the intended device, and select Properties. When done viewing all the information, exit the Properties window.
***Windows 7 comes loaded with a set of features that let you personalize your desktop and other settings. You can even prioritize the display of icons as desired.

How to Fix the Fxssvc.exe Error Message in Microsoft Windows XP

You may encounter the “Fxsscv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience” error message when you try to print in your Windows XP PC. The error is primarily caused by the corrupt fax job in the Fax Queue folder in your Window XP PC. You can follow the steps given below to fix this problem:
Stop the Fax service if it’s running from the Start button> Accessories> Communications> Fax. If you do not Fax there, click Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services. Right-click Fax service and click Stop. If prompted, confirm the action. Exit all the windows.
Now locate the fax queue folder and delete it. The folder may by located in the C:\ drive> Documents and Settings> All Users> Application Data> Microsoft> Windows NT> MSFax> Queue (this is the folder that you need to delete).
Right-click Queue in MSFax and click Delete. If prompted, click the Yes button to confirm the action. If you cannot find the Queue folder in the MSFax folder, do this trick. Right-click the Start button and click Windows Explorer.
In the Windows Explorer window, click the Tools tab> select Folder Options. On the Folder Options screen, click the View tab and click radio button beside Show hidden files and folders under Hidden files or folders. Click OK to save changes and exit the window.

Now try to relocate the Queue folder and delete it. When done, exit all the windows. Now restart the Fax service and you are done. You can go to Services in Administrative Tools (see the first step), right-click Fax and click Restart. You are done now.
